Portugal; Bosses Cannot Send Messages or Call Their Employees Before or After Working Time
A proper work-life balance is a much-needed thing for every working people irrespective of the department and designation. In normal cases, we have seen that even if an employee work at the office and returns back home, they still get texts or calls regarding the work and he/she should respond and complete that duty. The same happens to the work from home employees too. Their scenario is a bit different. Work from home employees gets texts or calls a bit more than work from office employees irrespective of the timings.
So as a time to rest criterion, Portugal has passed new legislation to make sure that the working people have a proper work-life balanced see-saw. Working people have the right to take rest after working hours. The government of Portugal passed a law explaining if any of the employers try to contact their employees via text or calls before or after working time, he or she must pay a penalty for that. But this does not apply to employers who have less than 10 employees at their company. This law also forbids companies from monitoring their employees who work at home.
After passing this law, it is seen that the employers in Portugal always have a fear of contacting their employees before or after working hours. They think twice before they try to get in touch with the employees even if they need an emergency inquiry on the submitted tasks and projects.
This has created a trend which makes the employees relieved from huge stress even after the working time. They have the time to relax and cool down before they get back to work the next day. Along with that, Ana Mendes Godinho, the Minister of Labour and Social Security of Portugal announced that by limiting the disadvantages of the work from home system, the Portuguese government tries to make the life of remote working people easier than before.
With this crucial step, the Portuguese government promotes every employee’s right to rest after the hectic working hours.
